22 SEPTEMBER - INTERNATIONAL AGE GROUP GAMES 2005

DOUBLE GOLD JOY FOR GREAT BRITAIN!

2 SILVERS PLUS 2 BRONZE

Great Britain had the perfect start to the International Age Group Games tonight with double gold medals for our gymnasts plus 2 silvers and 2 bronze in the first night of Finals! British fans and gymnasts were jumping for joy as Union Jack flew proudly in Eindhoven as our medallists stepped onto the rostrum.

Asha Philip won the Gold Medal in the Double - Mini Trampoline age 15-16 Finals, and Stacey Dann and Hannah Davies won the Synchro Title in the 17-18 Age Group Finals with a superb performance after winning qualifiers by a margin of 2.7! To round off a perfect day, Sophie Burr win Silver in the Girl’s Trampoline age 11-12 Finals, and a second Silver medal with partner Megan Lillington in the Tramploine Synchro age 11-12 and team mates Lucy Ryall and Zoe Brooks collecting bronze ! Nathan Bailey and Jordan George also won our second bronze  medal of the night in the Boy’s Tampoline Synchro 11-12 age Group Final, with a terrific fourth place for Hannah in the 17-18 Trampoline Women’s finals, and Michael Wood and Jason  Harvey also achieving a place in the finals.

Many congratulations to all of our gymnasts and coaches on your fantastic achievements from everyone at Gymnastics Online and gym fans around the world!

Asha Philip had qualified in 4th place earlier today, and performed brilliantly to win the Gold medal, Double -Mini Trampoline Finals with a score of 67.90, a full 1.3 points ahead of Silver medalist Kasi Barry from the USA with 66.60, and Kimberley Shea from New Zealand in bronze position.

Sophie had scored 31.5 in this afternoon’s qualifiers equalling the score of team mate Zoe Brooks, and qualifying for tonigh’s Finals in 6th place, Both girls were just 0.1 ahead of Lucy Ryall with Megan Lilington also just missing a top 6 Final’s place. An excellent performance from all of the GB girls produced a fairytale ending as Sophie jumped superbly to win Silver in tonight’s final scoring 32.60, just 1.0 behind Gold medallist Savannah Vinsant from the USA. She then went onto compete with Megan in the Synchro Finals to win her second silver medal with Zoe and Lucy winning bronze after both pairs had tied in qualifiers scoring 41.9.

Sadly our tumblers in the boys and girls age 13-14 did not make Finals with the boy’s only landing two of their runs in the upright position, with the girl’s successfully completing more runs including Mica Parry’s full twisting  double back. The Gold and Silver medals in both Finals went to Russia who performed superbly in today’s Championships. Natalia Kuzmina won Gold in the Girl’s Final with Dennis Belkin winning the boys

In other events, Russia also dominated the evenings trampoline Finals winning 4 Gold Medals, in the Boy’s Double Mini-Trampoline age 15-16, Trampoline Boy’s and Girl’s age 17-18 and the Boy’s Trampoline age 11-12!

21 SEPTEMBER - INTERNATIONAL AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS OPEN IN EINDHOVEN!

The opening ceremony took place in Eindhoven tonight for the 17th International Age Group Championships. A record number of competitors are taking part in what should be a fabulous event after the success of the World Trampoline & Tumbling Championships last weekend.

Over 1,400 athletes and delegates took part from 41 countries and many of the competitors will hope to achieve medal success as they build towards Beijing 2008. The event features Trampoline, Double-Mini trampoline and Tumbling, where Great Britain have a good chance of medal success following GB’s 4th place in the Team competition and Samantha Palmer’s bronze in World’s last weekend. Sam’s team mates from Milton Keynes Conor Maloney and Megan Green, and the rest of the GB Team will be hoping to add to the medal tally. Our tumblers are shown below. Our trampolinists and double-mini team are also in great form and stand an excellent chance of winning medals at this prestigious event.

The qualifying events begin tomorrow with the Trampoline for boys and girls aged 11-12 and 17-18 and Tumbling for girls and boys age 13-14, with DMT and Synchro qualifiers also taking place. And tomorrow night we will see our first Champions crowned as the first Finals take place! Full results will appear here on Gymnastics Online!

The full competition schedule is shown above. Good luck to all of the competitors, and best wishes to all of the Great Britain team who I know will do us proud!
